Osun Philanthropist Shot Dead, Hunter Killed in Retaliation

Popular Philanthropist and grassroots politician in the Ejigbo area of Osun state, Richard Idowu popularly called Adeoriokin has been shot dead by a hunter, who was also mobbed to death immediately after Adeoriokin gave up the ghost.

The two men were killed on Saturday during the 50th coronation anniversary of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyeyosin.

Although it was not certain if the hunter pulled the trigger on purpose or by accident, people around never waited for any investigation before visiting the jungle justice on the hunter.

The accident has since thrown the entire Ejigbo community into mourning as the coronation anniversary turned sour.

Meanwhile, governor Ademola Adeleke directed that a thorough investigation be carried out to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the sad development.

Speaking through his media aide, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke urged security agents to prevent a breakdown of order in the area as a result of the killings. He also commissrrated with the monarch and the people of Ejigbo.

Rasheed said: “Mr Governor has called for pre-emptive action by the security agencies to prevent any possible counter-attacks or eruption of violence in the ancient town following the sad incident.

“What happened today at Ejigbo is really sad. I extend my condolences to the families of the deceased. I have directed an immediate investigation into the killings of Dr Richard Adeoriokin and the subsequent killing of his killer.

“I have also instructed the State Police Command to issue guidelines on usage of local guns. Such regulations will enhance safety and protection of the citizens, especially at public functions.” the statement reads.
