Edo2020: Threat to Life as Edo Citizens Run for Safety

…APC Stakeholders kick against Obaseki’s 2nd term bid

Edo has been one of the States favoured with well equipped human resources but the political environment has turned porous and violent. Several well meaning citizens of the State has been constantly attacked with alot of them fleeing the State and Country for safety respectively.

This is coming in as the build up to the elections in the state approaches closely with various political gladiators including the incumbent Governor, H.E Godwin Obaseki jumping on the board to seek the office of the Governor for a second term in office.

The withdrawal of support by party Stakeholders in the State, has ignited the manhunt and other forms of violence and threats to some selected Chieftains of the party and their immediate families among whom is the Edo APC Central Senatorial Youth Leader, Mr. Louis Okojie.

Most recent incident, is the refusal of Louis Okojie’s declaration of support for the present Governor of the State. This singular act brought a total uproar in the political environment of the State owing to the Stakeholder’s grip over the party structures in the Senatorial Zone and the State at large.

While the Senatorial Youth Leader canvased for a youthful candidate to succeed Godwin Obaseki, the Governor has instructed the arrest of APC Stakeholders opposing his second term bid.

This development further angered other political stakeholders and Chieftains in the state, thereby calling for the disqualification of the Governor from participating in the party’s primaries ahead of the September 2020 Gubernatorial elections in the State.

The State APC Caucus has also issued a statement and furthermore, petitioned the Edo State Police Command to investigate the manhunt of party Chieftains by Governor Godwin Obaseki especially the threat to life of the APC Edo Central Senatorial Youth Leader Louis Okojie among others.
