Militants suspected of being bandits killed the driver of a commercial bus and kidnapped 8 passengers between Ruma and Babana in the Borg regional government area of Niger state.
The incident happened on Saturday 2023/12/2, when the deceased and others returned from the installation of the chairman of King Borg and the Abbot of Baccarabonde.
It was collected that a female passenger on the bus, allegedly covered in blood, pretended to have died and that the gunman began to leave her.
In addition, it was found that the kidnappers set fire to the vehicle in which the victim was traveling.
The chairman of the Borg Local Government Council, Alhaji Suleiman Yerima, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, described it as “unfortunate” and added that he was supposed to pass the information on to the Commissioner for Local government and Chief affairs, Hamidu Jantabo, all the relevant authorities.
Yerima revealed that the bandits had made contact with the local government demanding a ransom of n17Million.
“Where do I get the N17Million,” he asked.
Council bosses advised motorists plying local government roads, especially at night, to warn local vigilantes that would provide them with adequate security.
