The minister of interior , Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed that the Federal Government of Nigeria spends 3million to sustain approximately 4,000 prison inmates across the country.
The mister highlighted the rationale economy behind efforts to decongest the Nigerian correctional centers in the country, stating the need for efficient resources allocation.
Tunji-ojo , spoke at channels’ TV politics on Wednesday the 29th of November 2023 , he emphasised on the importance of considering the economy of scale.
He started that ” to feed those 4,068 a day by 365 days, such fiscal construction, underscore the government commitment to prudence in Managing public resources.
On the issue of allegation of collusion between prison officials and non- state actors to support terrorism, the Minister condemned the nation as “disposable” and treasonable of proven true.
He expressed disbelief that individual sworn to protect the nation’s intergrity would compromise by aligning with terrorists. He vowed that any such acts would not be swept under the carpet as undermining the country’s security is a serious offence that warrants investigation and prosecution.
