After a bus and a petrol truck collided in Kwara, 25 persons were killed and 15 injured in the fire.

Twenty-five people have reportedly lost their lives while about 15 people were injured to varying degrees in the fire disaster in Bodesaadu, in the Moro local government area of Kwara Province.

 

 

 

The fire incident occurred when a petrol tanker, a heavy truck and an 18-seater bus with registration number JJN17XW collided about 3:18 p.m. on Tuesday. 28, Oko-Olowo, in the village of Peke along the Bode Saadu expressway.

 

 

A spokesman for the Kwara Provincial Fire Department, Hakim Adekunle, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. 29.

 

 

 

He said a petrol tanker moving from Niger state was using the wrong side of the road and as a result it collided head-on with a large truck from Lagos State.

 

 

 

He said: “The collision rapidly ignited a fire that consumed both vehicles and also affected an 18-seater bus from Lagos.

 

 

“In 2023/11/28, around 15:18, the Kwara State Fire Department responded to a fire in Peke Village along the Oko-Olowo–Bode Saadu expressway in the Moro Regional government area of Kwara State.

 

 

 

“The incident involved a petrol tanker with registration number JJN17XW, a heavy truck and an 18-seater bus.

 

 

 

“The investigation revealed that petrol tankers moving from Niger were using the wrong side of the road as a result of a head-on collision with a heavy truck from Lagos,” the report said. The collision quickly ignited a fire that consumed both vehicles and also affected an 18-seater bus from Lagos.

 

 

 

“Expressing deep sadness, the director of the Kwara State Fire Department issued a warning to ensure that road users consistently comply with safety measures and give priority to the practice of safe driving.”
