Festus Onori, a 45-year-old police inspector, was allegedly lynched to death at the Ogwashi-Uku community in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State by suspected Okada riders.

According to a Daily Trust report, a police officer who worked at the Marine Police Station (Cable Point Asaba) was killed by lynching while traveling to church on Sunday with his wife, three children, and other family members.

Austin Onori, the deceased’s older brother, who confirmed the incident, claimed that the trouble began when a commercial motorcycle driver struck his brother’s car from behind in Okpanam as he and his family were traveling to a Sunday church service.

He claimed that as a result of the collision, his brother pulled over and packed his car far away to assess the extent of the damage and make sure the motorcyclist and his passenger were unharmed.

He claimed that as soon as his brother got out of the car, a group of around 20 young men carrying sticks and clubs began pursuing him.

He described how the sight of the armed youths caused him to rush back to his car, adding that as he fled in fear for his life, the youths followed him.

He took a different route to the Express road when he reached Marble Hill (Okpanam), anticipating that his pursuers would become discouraged and turn back.

When the fuel in his car ran out on the Ogwashi Uku Community Kwale Expressway, he described how they pursued him down to Ogwashi-Uku Community, even facing Kwale.

Then, in front of his wife and three children, he was mowed down to death by his assailants, who number over 200.

Additionally, they wrecked his car.

According to the wife’s account, a bystander brought Inspector Onori to the Ogwashi-Uku Police Station before his demise was officially declared.

He added, “His body is in the morgue as I speak.
