The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Mambas of Mozambique to earn their first victory in a friendly match in five years.
This evening, October 16, the Naija stars defeated Mozambique 3β2 at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira, Portugal.
With this achievement, Nigeria has won a friendly match for the first time in five years.
Terem Moffi of OGC Nice tied the score 13 minutes after Mozambique’s Geny Catamo gave his team the lead with a goal seven minutes into the game.
Frank Onyeka of Brentford scored to give the Super Eagles a 2-1 advantage after the Super Eagles had equalized.
Later, following a handball in the 18-yard box, the Mozambican Mambas were penalized.
Nigeria scored its third goal in the first half after Simon Moses successfully converted the penalty.
Both teams made several attempts to score again in the second. Faisal Abdul Bangal scored for the Mambas, but Mozambique was the next to score.
The victory will give the Super Eagles more self-assurance heading into their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Crocodiles of Lesotho and the Warriors of Zimbabwe next month.
On November 13, Lesotho will be their guest at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, and three days later they will depart for Zimbabwe.
