Cross River govt outline plans to mitigate carbon emissions, flooding

The Cross River State government has outlined actions to reduce carbon emissions in the state and carried out sensitizations and interventions to mitigate floods, especially in areas prone to natural disasters in the state.

Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Moses Osogi who disclosed this when he met with the Minister of Environment in his office in Abuja to seek greater collaboration, said sanctions have been put in place to discourage carbon emission.

He stressed that sustainable alternatives have been provided for the people.

The Commissioner reported that in view of constant change in climate, the state has embarked on education and sensitization campaigns to lessen the threat to the safety of livelihoods of Nigerians.

“We have set up campaigns in both media and physical gatherings to educate and sensitize the people about the effects of climate change and how to mitigate and prevent shifting climate patterns for the ultimate benefit of humans, plants and animals alike.

He called on the federal government to build Waste to Wealth Infrastructure to promote environmental sustainability and business opportunities through a secular economy.

He said Cross River State was looking to procure a waste recycling plant, segregation and collections centres and systems training and support centres.

In response, the Minister assured tOsogi that he is ready to synergize with the Cross River government to achieve better results.

He thanked the Commissioner for being the first State Commissioner to visit him upon assumption of office
