The Ogun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has upheld Dapo Abiodun’s victory in the March 18 general election.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ladi Adebutu, a candidate for governor on the PDP ticket, had petitioned the tribunal to contest Abiodun’s re-election due to alleged irregularities and corrupt practices. The governor was not declared the winner by INEC because, according to the petition, he did not receive a majority of the vote.
The tribunal found that the petitioner had not established its case beyond a reasonable doubt in an 11-hour judgment delivered today, September 30.
The petition was then struck out and dismissed.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later declared Abiodun the winner of the election, and the court ruled that he was qualified to run as his party’s candidate.
