Five thieves were captured by police in Kano over 996 stolen phones.        

Five alleged thieves have been detained by the Kano State Police Command, and 996 stolen mobile phones, nine stolen laptops, ATM cards, and other accessories have been found.

 

In a statement released on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said one of the suspects, Ibrahim Adamu, broke into eleven shops at Dansulaika GSM Market and stole mobile phones, desktop, and laptop computers, as well as some sales money.

 

 

 

 

The suspect was apprehended at Sallari Quarters in the state’s Tarauni Local Government Area after a detective team launched an intelligence-driven operation.

 

 

 

Adamu admitted to committing the crime by himself and helped the police find the stolen goods, which included 106 mobile phones.

 

 

 

 

“The Police Command was responding to a public outcry received from the coordinators of Dansulaika GSM Market, Farm Center, Kano, that on August 24, 2023, at around 00:00, unknown person (s) broke into eleven (11) shops through the roof ceilings and stole the following items: Some Mobile Phones, Desktop and Laptop Computers, some sales money, ATM cards, and other accessories, while the team of detectives conducted a covert investigation with a view to apprehending the.

 

 

 

 

“A persistent intelligence-driven operation was started, and it resulted in the capture of one Ibrahim Adamu, m, of Sallari Quarters, Tarauni LGA, Kano.

The suspect admitted to the police that he was the sole perpetrator of the crime and helped them recover the nine laptop computers, nine ATM cards, one hundred and six (106) mobile phones, and one hundred and fifteen thousand nine hundred and forty naira (N115,940:00) in sales money.

Upon completion of the ongoing investigation, the suspect will be charged in court, the PPRO added.

 

 

 

 

A 19-year-old salesman named Mujittafa Sale was also detained by police after he and another man, Ahmed Abbati, planned to steal several different brands of cell phones and other accessories from his employer’s store.

 

 

 

 

Three suspects who helped him conceal the stolen mobile phones were arrested after the aforementioned Mujjitafa Sale confessed to the crime during the investigation.

 

 

 

 

A total of 890 mobile phones were recovered from the four suspects as a result of a thorough investigation.

 

 

 

 

The shop owner discovered that several brands of mobile phones and other accessories were stolen from his shop and strongly suspected his sales boy one Mujittafa Sale,’m’ 19 years old of Dukawuya Quarters, Kano, according to a report from a mobile phone marketer of the Beirut Road GSM Market, Kano, which was received at around 1400 hours on September 18, 2023.

 

 

 

“Upon receiving the report, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc, the commissioner of police, detailed a team of detectives and gave them instructions to conduct a thorough investigation.

 

 

 

 

“The aforementioned Mujjitafa Sale, 23, of Dukawuya Quarters, Kano, was arrested during the investigation and immediately confessed to plotting with him and committing the crime together.

 

 

 

 

“Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the following individuals who assisted him in concealing the stolen mobile phones as well as other accessories: (1) Musa Muhammad Shafi’u,’m’ 25 years old, (2) Nusairu Nasiru,’m’ 22 years old, and (3) Usman Muhammad,’m’ 25 years old, all of Dukawuya Quarters, Kano.

Following a thorough investigation, eight hundred and ninety (890) mobile phones were found on them.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged in court.

 

 

 

 

“The Commissioner of Police, while thanking the good people of the State for their understanding, support, and cooperation, also counsels shop owners to exercise caution when selecting business partners.

He also reiterates that the Police Command will continue to be dedicated to protecting the life and property of all residents in the State.
