Cable vandals are detained by the NSCDC in kano.

In connection with an alleged case of robbery, theft, and vandalism involving armored cables and three driven unit batteries belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, two suspects have been detained by the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Three additional suspects are still at large, the command also disclosed.

This was stated in a statement made by the State Commandant’s representative and the command’s public relations officer, DSC Ibrahim Abdullahi.

He claims that on September 21 at the KEDCO distribution substation on Briscoe Independence Road in Nassarawa LGA, Kano, officers from the command’s Anti-Vandalism Unit made the arrest.

“The suspects were captured after our officers promptly responded to a distressed call about what was occurring at the station at midnight,” Abdullahi said.

Anas Shamsu, 26, of Kumbotso Local Government, and Nasiru Muhammad, 25, of Tamburawa Yamma, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, were the suspects listed by him.

He claimed that the suspects were currently being held by the corps while an investigation was conducted, following which they would face charges in court.

“The unfortunate incident of vandalism of these armoured cables (45mm) and three driven unit batteries, has significantly impacted the supply of electricity to many places in Kano, leaving various communities in total darkness.

The statement continued, “However, the recent arrest and eventual recovery of the items will no doubt bring comfort thus restoring power supply to those areas.”.
