UNILAG responds to the arrest of a professor who is accused of raping a female student.

The lecturer Dr. Kadiri Akeem Babalola is accused of raping a female undergraduate student in his office, and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has responded to the situation.

 

The incident allegedly happened on Wednesday, August 16, when the student went to the lecturer’s office to address concerns about her grade, according to the student, who asked to remain anonymous.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Instead of Dr. Kadiri attending to the undergraduate’s result problems, according to a non-governmental organization, Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation (InclusiveSWEF), where the victim reported the case, he allegedly raped her.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The case was reported by the NGO to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

CP Idowu Owohunwa, the state’s chief of police, then requested the state High Court to issue a warrant for Dr. Kadiri’s arrest.

 

 

 

 

 

The lecturer was detained and is scheduled to appear in court soon, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the command, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, September 6.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, a spokesperson for UNILAG, said in a statement on Thursday that the university is aware of the investigation and is working with the police.

 

 

 

 

 

On August 28, UNILAG Management received a letter from the Nigeria Police Force inviting a university employee to be questioned. The employee was informed of the situation right away and given instructions to follow, according to Alaga-Ibraheem.

While the specifics of the incident that resulted in the employee’s arrest are still unknown to us.
