Transfer: Man Utd release statement as Mason Greenwood leaves for Getafe

Manchester United have said they will “continue to offer its support” to Mason Greenwood after the striker sealed a loan move to Getafe.

The 21-year-old hasn’t played professional football since he was arrested in January 2022.

However, charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Greenwood were dropped seven months ago.

In August, United concluded an internal investigation after the criminal case ended and announced he will not play for the Red Devils again.

Greenwood has now joined Getafe on a season-long loan, with the deal confirmed on transfer deadline day.

According to United, it will help Greenwood “rebuild his career” away from Old Trafford.

Following the move, United released a statement, which read: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
