On Saturday, August 12, a few Kano State citizens demonstrated against the ECOWAS’s (the Economic Community of West African States) plan to use force to end the crisis surrounding the Niger coup.
Recall that on Thursday, August 10, at a meeting in Abuja, ECOWAS leaders ordered the member states’ armed forces to be ready to restore democracy in the neighboring West African country.
The opposition kicked against this plan. They chanted while carrying various placards.
“Nigerians are both our family and our brothers,” they say. We own Niger, and we don’t want to go to war with it because doing so would be unfair and would be the work of Western forces.
While chanting anti-war songs, the demonstrators also carried the flags of Nigeria and Niger.
Some Nigerians have argued that citizens of some Northern states will suffer significantly if a war is started against the coup plotters in Niger.
