A man in Oyo was detained for selling his newborn granddaughter

One “Monday Chukwuka” has been captured by Oyo State Police Command officers after he is accused of selling his newborn granddaughter for N700,000.

Adewale Osifeso, the command’s spokesperson, described the suspect as having been apprehended on Monday in his hideout in the Ibafo area of Ogun State as a result of a reliable intelligence report.

An actionable intelligence report about the “harvesting of a day-old baby girl” from her teenage mother, Sarah Chukwuka, in Oyo town and sale of the girl child to a criminal cartel that runs a baby factory in Abia State, was received by a team of police operators attached to the Command Monitoring, Oyo State, on July 10, 2023. “.

Osifeso claimed that during an intelligence-led interview on Monday, the father of the teenage girl who gave birth to the day-old baby girl admitted to the crime and went into great detail about how he kidnapped the child from her mother as soon as she gave birth under the pretext of giving the child to someone who would take good care of her.

The suspect went on to detail how the day-old baby was transported to Abia State and then sold to the proprietor of a baby factory there for the sum of Seven Hundred Thousand Naira (N700,000.00). Popoola Bunmi, a female suspect, and four other accomplices—Chinwedu Peter, Chidinma Blessing, Chuckwu Christopher, and Favour Chukwu—were all arrested in connection with the criminal activity after the investigation was expanded to Abia State. “.

Osifeso informed reporters that bundles of brand-new birth certificates and some delivery equipment had been taken from the factory. He added that the suspects, at the time of their arrest, had no satisfactory explanation for the parentage of the infants who had been taken from the factory.

The suspect (Monday) claimed he sold the child because he couldn’t afford to care for both his teenage daughter and the child. He claimed to have used the proceeds from the sale of the child to rent a store and purchase goods for it.

The teen mother (Sarah) claimed she was unaware that her father intended to sell the child, adding that he had only previously expressed a desire to give the child to a caregiver for two years before returning with the child afterward.

Favor Chukwuka, the alleged purchaser of the infant, claimed that she made the purchase at the couple’s (name withheld) request and that she was paid N50,000 as payment for the service.
