The security agencies’ efforts to restore peace in the region have been praised by the governors of the five South East states, who also emphasized that normalcy was gradually returning as a result of the security agencies’ cooperation with local governments and residents
Following their meeting at the Enugu State Government House on Thursday, August 10, the governors made this announcement in a statement that was read by Senator Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State and chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum.
Governors of Enugu State, Charles Soludo of Anambra, Alex Otti of Abia State, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi attended the meeting, which also reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to establishing a shared socioeconomic and security cooperation through a summit that will be revealed at a later time.
The Forum further stated that the region’s insurgents and their sponsors were simply criminals who should not be treated with respect as legitimate agitators, but rather dealt with in accordance with the law.
While denying any involvement of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the unrest in the area and claiming that the latter had disowned the sit-at-home enforcers and other criminals who had been using his name to commit crimes, Uzodimma also answered questions from reporters and stated that the governors of the area would continue to do everything in their power to maintain the growing peace and security that the South East is currently experiencing.
