A National and State House of Assembly elections petition tribunal in Kano has declared invalid the election of Muktar Umar Yerima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the representative for Tarauni Federal Constituency.
A three-person tribunal panel headed by Justice I made a decision regarding the petition submitted by Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Because Yerima allegedly submitted a forged primary school diploma to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chima claimed that Yerima was ineligible to hold the position.
The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revoke the certificate of return that had previously been given to Yerima after finding that the NNPP did not run a candidate in the election and that all of the votes cast for Yerima were wasted.
The decision was reached after Hausawa Primary School disclaimed the certificate issued by the ousted lawmaker.
