Trending:The collection of levies and tolls on Enugu's roads and highways is prohibited by Governor Mbah

He cautioned that such anti-business activities of syndicates operating on highways and roads are in opposition to his government’s determination to remove barriers to the ease of doing business in the state.

All types of levy and toll collection on state-owned roads and highways have been outlawed by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.

In a public service announcement, Governor Mbah stated that his administration views with the utmost displeasure the activities of those who are a nuisance on our roads and use all manner of crude tactics to extort money from vehicles transporting goods, farm produce, and livestock in the state, in the name of a collection of levies and tolls on behalf of the government. Prof. Chidiebere Onyia is the Secretary to the State Government.

He issued a warning, stating that such anti-business activities of syndicates operating on highways and roads are in opposition to his government’s determination to remove barriers to the state’s business climate.

“The current administration of His             Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah shall not pay lip service to its stated commitment to expand the Enugu economy sevenfold by promoting economic activities, enabling private sector investments, and offering incentives to boost the productive sectors, such as agricultural and agro-allied activities in the state,” the statement said.

“Those willing to engage in legal business and economic activities in our state shall be encouraged to do so as they are advantageous to the state.

The government is also making efforts to end the state’s multiple and illegal taxation, including the collection of taxes and revenues from individuals through cash payments, the manual issuance of receipts, and paper tickets.

The government is convinced that tax and revenue collection must be user-friendly and convenient through technology while addressing leakages.

Given the aforementioned, the Enugu State Government hereby forbids the collection of levies and tolls along state highways and roads by individuals or groups of individuals ostensibly acting on behalf of the government.

“They have been given notice to leave all state highways and roads by this announcement, and they will face serious repercussions if they don’t comply.

The prohibition is in force right away.

To carry out the ban, a task force has been organized. “.

Anyone found engaging in illegal activity will now face legal consequences, the statement continued.
