Transfer: Manchester United midfielder close to leaving Ten Hag’s side for new club

Manchester United midfielder Zidane Iqbal is closing in on a permanent move to FC Utrecht, Sky Sports News reports.

Iqbal is set to put pen to paper on a contract with the Eredivisie club, ending his long association with Man United, where he has progressed through the age groups.

The 20-year-old made history in December 2021 when he appeared in the Champions League game against Young Boys to become the first British-South Asian to play for the Red Devils.

The academy graduate, whose mother is Iraqi and father is Pakistani, was on Man United’s bench on seven occasions during the most recent Premier League campaign.

Iqbal was down the pecking order in Man United manager Erik ten Hag’s choice of midfielders at Old Trafford as the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Fred, and Scott McTominay are ahead of him
