The Akwaibom Chapter of the Coalition for Better Nigeria, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has endorsed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia State, for the position of 10th Senate President.
In a letter to the three senators from Akwaibom state, including Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is also a candidate for the Senate presidency, the group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the senators elected to consider Kalu and elect him as the next Senate President.
The group cited stability, unity, experience, capacity, and national peace as reasons for its support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in a letter sent on Wednesday and signed by Solomon Akpan.
“We are a group of Nigerians formed into a union to offer technical support and advice, unsolicited but from a patriotic standpoint, to assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in taking decisions that will heal past wounds, reconcile various interests, give all Nigerians a sense of belonging, and foster national unity, peace, and stability,” the letter reads.
“We write to congratulate you on your election as Senators for Akwa Ibom’s three Senatorial (geopolitical) districts.” We see it as both well-deserved and a call to duty. We rely on you to assist Mr. President in serving Nigerians and bringing the country together.
“From the capital of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all Senators elected and wish them the best legislative experience.” As the National Assembly is about to convene on June 13, 2023, our Coalition and the people of Akwa Ibom State ask for your help in electing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State elected under the APC platform and hailing from the South East, as President of the Senate. We see this as a patriotic obligation to stabilize Nigeria and set the tone for the healing, rehabilitation, and stability of the South East.
“Orji Uzor Kalu is a seasoned politician, well-versed in the workings of the Federal Republic’s Senate.” He has been a staunch supporter of President Tinubu and the APC as a whole. South East has long been a stronghold of opposition, but because to the intervention of His Excellency, Senator Kalu, and other stakeholders in the zone, the APC now has more votes than ever and six Senators from the zone in the newly formed Senate.
“We regard His Excellency, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the national consensus that every stakeholder must embrace because of the long-term benefits Nigeria will receive, particularly in working with the new government to resolve the Biafra agitation and the question of exclusion that the South East zone complained about during the previous administration.”
“I respectfully request that Senators quote for Nigeria’s unity, oneness, and progress.”
“Once again, we thank and congratulate you,” the organization added.
