The youth of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has asked the three new governors in the South-East not to disappoint the people who voted them into office.
The new governors are – Peter Mbah- Enugu, Francis Nwifuru- Ebonyi and Alex Otti- Abia.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he told the governors that it is time to face governance.
Okwu, who observed that the journey to victory for the three governors was not an easy route, said they must justify the confidence reposed on them.
He said, “We want to heartily congratulate the three brand new governors in the South-East. It is the will of God that the mantle of leadership will be on them at this historic moment.
“In Enugu, Barr Peter Mbah, against all odds emerged as the governor of the coal city State because the residents were determined to give him their mandate having assessed his personal capacity.
“The residents bought into his manifesto and voted for him. This is now time to pay them back and Governor Peter Mbah should do away from any form of distraction.
“He should remodel Enugu capital quickly with the needed infrastructure and then head to the hinterlands.”
Turning to Nwifuru, Okwu said he should focus his energy on rural development.
“The immediate past governor Dave Umahi did so much in the development of the Abakaliki capital city. It is now time to make inroads into the various rural areas in Ebonyi State.
“Many communities in Ebonyi have not tested serious government presence; Umahi has done the needed job in the State capital, so we expect Governor Nwifuru to channel energy into providing basic infrastructures in the rural areas.
“We also have some words of advice for Governor Alex Otti of Abia State; he must know that this is not a time for vendetta; we urge him to face governance.
“There is so much expectation on him from the people of Abia State; he must not disappoint the people who defied all odds to elect him.
“Having said this, we want to add that South-East governors should also unite irrespective of party affiliations for the development of our region.”
Okwu then called on all opposition parties in the three States to sheath their swords and support the governors to avoid distractions that would hinder rapid development
