A chieftain of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organization, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has said the Igbo bishops’ recommendations can only resolve the crisis within the body.
Isiguzoro said the spiritual fathers of the Ohanaeze realized that the immediate cause of the crisis was the unconstitutional removal of the body’s former Secretary General, Uche Okwukwu.
The Secretary-General of the Chidi Ibeh-led faction of Ohanaeze disclosed this in a statement he issued.
According to Isiguzoro, the Igbo apex body has been bogged down with leadership impasse and crisis, leading to factionalization since its January 2021 elections.
Isiguzoro said: “Certainly, Ndigbo need Ohanaeze, a united and functional Ohanaeze at this time, more than ever before.”
He, however, noted that the only antidote to “ending the Ohanaeze quagmire is an immediate implementation of the report of the Peace Committee of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops which was equally endorsed by the Joint Body of South East Traditional Rulers Council and Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops.”
He charged all Igbo patriots to apologise to Igbo Bishops and Archbishops.
Isiguzoro also lamented that the Ibeh-led faction is being subjected to blackmail and propaganda by those trying to take over Ohanaeze’s mantle of leadership “through the backdoor.”
