As Nigerians prepare for the 10th National Assembly, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has highlighted reasons why Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State should be the next Senate President.
Ohanaeze Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said Umahi would ensure that the Southeast is adequately represented at the national level.
Isiguzoro said Umahi would use his influence as Senate President to ensure that insecurity, Biafra agitation ends in the Southeast.
Speaking with DAILY POST, the Ohanaeze chieftain lamented that the Southeast is not adequately represented in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
According to Isiguzoro: “Umahi is an equitable tool that would achieve three things at a time. In the outgoing administration, we are not in the top six, we are not in the Presidency either as president or Vice, Ndigbo not a Senate President or deputy, we are nowhere to be found in the Speakership, also in the judiciary, we are nowhere to be found.
“This made the Southeast political leadership to fall on the governors of the region and the chairman becomes the leader in the last seven years.
“We are saying such a person with good understanding should be the next Senate President.
“When issues are being discussed at the national level he would use his diplomatic influence to help address these maladies of insecurity and Biafra agitations ravaging the Southeast.”
