Ligue1: It’s good news – Rothen reacts to Messi’s decision to leave PSG

Former Paris Saint-Germain winger Jerome Rothen has said that the news of Lionel Messi’s departure from the club is a good one.

Reacting positively to the news, Rothen said that the Argentine superstar has never represented the club.

Rothen has been a strong critic of Lionel Messi and believes the former Barcelona ace has never been committed to the club.

The 2022 World Cup winner moved to PSG on a free transfer after ending his long-term association with Barcelona in 2021.

RMC Sport reports that Messi has decided to leave the club when his current deal ends in June and Rothen reckons the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner’s decision to leave is welcomed.

He told RMC, “Of course [Lionel Messi’s departure is good news for everyone]. Above all, there should be no reversal of the situation. Fair winds, fair winds Leo! You have not properly represented the PSG jersey.

“But then you will go down in football history anyway.”
