Mazi Emmanuel Uche, an All Progressives Congress, APC, stalwart from the southeast zone, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission to announce the rightful winner of the Abia State governorship election that took place on Saturday, 18th March 2023.
He said the call is imperative to douse the heightened tension in the state necessitated by the temporary suspension of the collation of election results from the Obingwa Local Government Area following cases of invasion and hostage of INEC electoral officers.
Uche, a former Arochukwu local government area chairmanship candidate of the APC, noted that the yet-to-be-concluded gubernatorial election held across 184 electoral wards of the 17 local government areas was a reflection of the will of the Abia people who had decided to end the misrule of Peoples Democratic Party in the last twenty-four years.
While tasking INEC to stick to its internal rules by ensuring a transparent outcome of the soon-to-be concluded electoral process, Uche insisted the electorates in the state will not accept anything short of their expectations.
According to the party stalwart, “I am worried about the unfolding trends concerning the governorship election in Abia. And it will amount to a disservice to the people of the state for their general will is truncated to satisfy the interest of the ruling party and her government in Abia, which you and I know, that they have grounded the state and impoverished Abia masses with their foisted harsh policies.
“They have failed to show the needed capacity to address problems bedevilling Abia State, ranging from economic starvation, penury, Infrastructural deficits and decadence, and the rest of others. So, what am I trying to say, there must not be a subversive move to trample on, or murder the collective wishes and general will as demonstrated in voting massively and unanimously for Labour Party and its governorship candidate, Alex Otti
