The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba, has mourned the death of the immediate past Deputy Governor of the State, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi.
Rt. Hon. Adelugba described Otunba Egbeyemi’s demise as a monumental loss to the government and people of Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general.
In a statement on Sunday by her Special Adviser (Media), Odunayo Ogunmola, the Speaker described the late Egbeyemi as a diligent, committed and patriotic servant of the people in his lifetime leaving indelible legacies behind.
The Speaker had earlier on Saturday paid condolence visit to the family of the departed former Deputy Governor at GRA, Ado Ekiti, where she signed a condolence register paying tribute to the deceased.
Rt. Hon. Adelugba said Otunba Egbeyemi was a father figure and an exemplary mentor to younger politicians including herself, noting that the impact he left behind in various offices he occupied has become a reference point to the future generation.
The Speaker hailed the contributions of the deceased to the peace and conflict resolution in chieftaincy and land dispute during his tenure as the Deputy Governor under former Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Rt. Hon. Adelugba further described the death of Otunba Egbeyemi as a great loss to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which he served in various capacities the most recent being chairmanship of the party’s Reconciliation Committee after the last governorship primary.
She said: “We worked together in the restructuring of APC in 2014 under Baba Awojolu as Chairman and also the Reconciliation Committee on Gubernatorial candidate in 2022 election and also APC Presidential Advisory Committee. He was highly disciplined and did not joke with time.”
She further described the late former Deputy Governor as a consistent, loyal, trusted and dependable politician in the progressives family and a rallying point during challenging times for the umbrella party.
According to her, the Ekiti State House of Assembly feels a huge sense of loss on Otunba Egbeyemi’s passage having been a former legislator himself as a member of the old Ondo State House of Assembly.
While commiserating with the entire family members of the late former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Adelugba prayed God to grant them the courage and fortitude to bear the great loss.
She also urged them to be consoled by the worthy legacies of service, honour, integrity and statesmanship left behind by their patriarch which would be remembered for a long time to come
