The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun, Dr Mutiu Agboke has promised that security arrangements and procedures would be scaled up during the State House of Assembly election in the state.
Agboke stated that this was necessary due to the high stakes attached to the poll which would hold on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
DAILY POST recalls that due to the off-cycle gubernatorial election of July 16, 2022, the gubernatorial election would not hold in Osun State.
Agboke gave assurances of security during the commencement of the distribution of sensitive materials ahead of the poll at the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Osogbo Branch on Wednesday.
Supervising the exercise witnessed by security operatives, Agboke stressed that armed security operatives would be on duty at collation centres across the state and that more personnel would be deployed to violent-prone areas.
The step he said is to ensure a hitch-free poll.
“In Osun State, there is no gubernatorial election but notwithstanding, people will be electing their House of Assembly members and that is why we have brought out ballot papers and results sheets. They are going to be batched into Local Governments. If you look at them, they are in 30 places. They are already customised which makes it easier to be deployed to various Local Governments
