The Governorship Candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Professor Benard Odoh has said that he never betrayed Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State.
IGBERE TV had reported that gunmen recently ambushed the APGA governorship candidate at Rest House Okpoto in Ebonyi State, killing his driver and a police officer attached to him.
During an interview granted to Dream FM, Enugu State monitored by our correspondent, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Information, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji accused Odoh of betraying Umahi and politicising the attack on him.
He accused Prof. Odoh of being a man not to be trusted because of the way he resigned from office as the Secretary to the Government.
According to him, “Odoh has shown that he is not a man to be trusted because of the way and manner he left out of office”.
“Once someone is killed, it is the duty of the police and state government to ensure that they investigate the issue and bring the perpetrators to book. It is not by running to the media houses”.
“Prof. Odoh should not be politicising the attack. Prof. Odoh moves with the Police, DSS, and Civil Defence but he always accuse Ebubeagu operatives who don’t bear arms of attacking him,” he said.
He further said that if the state’s government wants to be sentimental over the attack on him, Prof. Odoh should be held to account for the lives lost during the attack on him at Rest House, Okpoto.
Reacting over the accusation by the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Information, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji that he (Odoh) betrayed Umahi, Odoh described Umahi’s government as a killer government.
According to him, “I was Secretary to the State Government but I resigned because I disagreed with many policies of the Government.”
“In 2015 when we came on board, Ebonyi poverty rate was 56 percent but today Ebonyi poverty rate is 79.9 percent.”
“When I resigned, I subjected myself to EFCC for investigation. So where is the betrayal coming from?.”
“Is it by force to serve Ebonyi State Government? Did I take your fund? Did I take your wife or land?”.
“So the word betrayal, where is it coming from?”
“The fact is that this Government is irresponsible and killer government.”
Reacting over series of attacks on him , Odoh accused Umahi’s government of arming Ebubeagu Operatives to always attack him.
Odoh revealed that he has been attacked seven times in a bid to stop him from campaigning and winning the 2023 Governorship election in the State.
“The person who led attack on me in Izzi Local Government is a coordinator, serving this Government,” he said.
He further alleged that all the attacks on him were carried out by suspected Ebubeagu Operatives armed by the State’s government.
He maintained that he is not politicising attack on him and revealed that the State’s government will not succeed.
