Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele withdrew from Nigeria’s presidential race in May 2022, IGBERETV reports.
Emefiele who picked picked the N100 million presidential nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) promised Nigeria a robust monetary policy as he promised to fight inflation in the country, if he is elected Nigeria’s president.
However, Emefiele missed deadlines set by the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Muhammadu Buhari to formalize his candidacy and resign from the central bank. By remaining in the post beyond May 16, 2022, the 61-year-old effectively abandoned his short-lived campaign for the highest office in Africa’s largest economy.
