Elections: DSS DG Asks Personnel To Be Neutral

The Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi has charged personnel to be professional and neutral in the discharge of their responsibilities during and after the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria.

The DSS boss made this known during a workshop for its state directors and heads of institutions ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The four-day workshop was held at the National Headquarters of the secret police in Abuja from January 18 to 21, DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya said in a statement on Monday.

At the end of the workshop, participants pledged to work in collaboration with sister agencies to ensure that peaceful elections are conducted across the country.

“During the exercise, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu presented a keynote address on the preparation of the Commission towards the election. He assured the Service of the Commission’s determination to deliver free, fair and credible election,” the statement read in part.

“Also, the Commission, through its Director of Legal, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, educated participants on the Electoral Act 2022 and its implications for Security agencies.

“The Service reviewed the security situation in the country and assured INEC of its support which is in line with the President’s pronouncement to the world to bequeath a free and fair election.”
