John Nwala, foremost Ngwa scholar has urged Abia governorship candidates from the Ukwa/Ngwa bloc of Abia State to close rank and step down for the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Engr. Enyinnaya Nwafor.
According to Nwala, the governorship candidate of the Action People’s Party (APP), Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu from Abia North Senatorial District may clinch the governorship seat if the Ngwa candidates fail to unite.
Nwala made the call in a statement signed by him on Sunday in Aba, noting that a situation whereby Ukwa/Ngwa will feature over half a dozen candidates in a governorship race had shown enough disadvantage to the Ukwa Ngwa people.
According to him, the process of featuring multiple candidates is a wasteful venture that had no direct positive bearing on the lives of the people of the old Aba region.
“Having multiple candidates within Ukwa Ngwa is creating an unhealthy rivalry that the resultant consequences will be a political somersault, throwing the people into endless sufferings. You can see that Abia North Senatorial District is uniting towards Mascot Uzor Kalu because he showing seriousness day by day. Greg Ibe is not convincing to them. If it’s only Mascot against seven Ukwa Ngwa candidates, then there is a big problem for us.
“It is time for Alex Otti, Uchenna Ikonne, Emeka Nwamkpa and other Ngwa governorship candidates to step down for Engr. Enyinnaya Nwafor to stand as the sole governorship candidate of the Ngwa people. If they fail to do so, then Mascot Uzor Kalu is the next governor of Abia State. Abia North is already united to regain power, OUK Movement is there for him, Reality Organization is there for him and his brothers are there also, so, who is going to stop him?
“When the numbers are minimised and regulated, then crises can be free managed.”
He bemoaned the situation and the bitter competition of political gladiators had thrown the area into, describing the situation as horrible and unfavourable to the Ngwa people of Abia State.
