The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, CON, on Wednesday, 4th January 2023 officially commissioned the popular Ekeaja Market and the Ekeaja Town Hall all located at the Ekeaja Market Square, Uburu, Ebonyi State.
The Ekeaja Market is a bi-daily evening market which is popular within the Ohaozara Council Area. Traders in the market only used tables and floors to showcase their goods as it is mainly dominated by food items, farm produce and provision.
While commissioning the Market, the Governor directs an Executive Order establishing a four-man Board of Trustees that will be made of a Chairman who shall be the Traditional Ruler of the Uburu Autonomous Community while the Secretary shall be the Traditional Ruler of Enu Uburu Autonomous Community. Furthermore, the Governor directs that there shall be no toll collection for the market and the Board shall be fully in charge of the Market. “The highness of the Uburu Autonomous Community shall always be the chairman of the Board and the Secretary shall be the one of Enu-Uburu Autonomous Community by the culture of Uburu and so the Board of trustee shall exercise full authority in terms of the use of the hall and the market.
” They shall be no toll collection for the market but they can rent out the shops, the hall can be rented out but it’s also free for the use of Uburu people and any village, a village, not one person, they can use the hall free of charge.
“The traditional rulers will maintain the place from the rent.
” The Honourable Attorney General shall prepare this executive order and shall spell out these conditions.”
While commissioning the Uburu Ancestral Hall, the Governor explained that it was his personal project and not that of the state government. He revealed that he built another of such project at Umunaga. “This project is my personal project, not the government. I built one here and I built another one in Umunaga and I am donating this one to the entire Uburu community. However, the executive order will cover all the infrastructure here.”
The Governor also performed the official foundation laying of Uburu New Market and assured those who have property at the location that they will be compensated. “We are grateful to God. This market is built not just for the people of Uburu but for the entire Ebonyi State, Cameroon and West Africa.
” Whoever has land here, we will give compensation by giving limited land space for the person to build. We are not going to build but we will put out roads, water, and electricity and it will be made available to the Uburu people and the entire Ebonyi people to come and pay a token and build their shops.”
