Former Nigerian football player, Kanu Nwankwo, OON, has received 2022 Football Legend of the Year Award in Leadership Excellence Awards organised by IgbereTV.
The legendary footballer who defeated three other nominees to emerge winner appreciated Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora who voted for him.
Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Awards is a highly coveted award, endorsed by the African Union, African Film Institute and News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.
The award is designed to reward those who have distinguished themselves in service delivery across all sectors of national life.
The Award presentation ceremony was held at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Abuja on November 5, 2022.
Kanu started his football career at Iwuanyanwu nationale before he moved to Dutch side Ajax, Inter Milan of Italy, and English clubs Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth.
Kanu won a UEFA Champions League medal, a UEFA Cup medal, three FA Cup medals and two African Player of the Year awards amongst others.
He is one of few players to have won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal.
