The Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike, on Thursday blasted the former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of this weekend’s presidential primary, IgbereTV reports
Wike who featured in a programme, said the former governor lacked character and integrity for dumping the party with just 72 hours to the primary.
Obi, who is one of the 2023 presidential aspirants, dumped the PDP on Wednesday.
The governor said he was not surprised about Obi’s exit from the PDP as he (Obi) knew he stood no chance of winning the presidential primary.
He said: “It is not surprising to me. Those of us that have joined the party since 1998 know better than to leave. Whatever problems we have, we’ll wait to settle it.
“Peter Obi leaving the party is not surprising to me. He knows there’s no way he would have won the presidential primary. Forget about what his DG, Doyin Okupe, said about money.”
He wondered what Obi discovered to be wrong with PDP that he didn’t see when he was given the vice-presidential ticket in 2019.
“There must be integrity, there must be character. How can a man who has gone to virtually all the states to tell them he’s a trader, how his family has been trading; how he does not allow anybody to carry his bag, and all those kinds of things, leave the party three days to the primary.
“I read on social media that he met Kwankwaso, maybe he wants to join him in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). What is he going to be there? Kwankwaso wants to be President. Is he going to be the VP?
“You can be the best economist, but if you don’t have character. The party gave you a vice presidential candidate ticket
