Unknown Gunmen have invaded the Nkwo Ihitte market in Imo State during the voters’ registration exercise organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
IGBERE TV gathered that the unknown gunmen, numbering about 12, stormed the area on Thursday and attacked some ad hoc staff members of the electoral commission who were registering members of the community for the 2023 general elections.
According to the report, one of the INEC officers in charge of the registration process was shot by the unknown gunmen.
An eyewitness said, “We had all gathered in the village square in obedience to the directive that we should come out en masse to register.
“Not long after we queued, the gunmen came in, shot sporadically, and hoarded many into a room with a threat to kill them while others scampered for safety.”
As of the time of filing this report, the total number of deaths had yet to be ascertained.
