Following his multiple indictment in drug and fraud related cases, popular online medium, IGBERE TV has concluded plans to withdraw the 2020 ‘Leadership Excellence’ Award bestowed on embattled “Supercop”, DCP Abba Kyari.
This was revealed by the Executive Director of Igbere TV, Emeh James Anyalekwa, who doubles as National President, Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), in a chat with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.
It comes barely 24 hours after the Deputy Commissioner of Police was arrested by the Police after being declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over his alleged membership of a drug cartel.
Anyalekwa disclosed that the decision was made by the Leadership Excellence Awards Organising Committee, adding that a World Press Conference would be held on a date to be communicated later to formally withdraw the Award.
Recall that following the massive nomination and voting by Nigerians, Kyari was in 2020 awarded as ‘Security Expert of the Year’ by IGBERE TV, way before his indictment by the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) in a case involving Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
Reacting, the Igbere TV boss said: “Our Award is based on public nomination and voting. As at the time (2020) the Award was presented, Abba Kyari was rated as the most effective security expert in the country by available information. He was massively nominated and voted by Nigerians for the award.
“Following his indictment by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI), We waited for his possible extradition and outcome of his trial. But with the current NDLEA indictment and the report and indictment by IGP, we have no other option than to take action,” Anyalekwa added.
