Ezeagu Leaders of Thought, Monarchs Laud Gov. Ugwuanyi’s Commitment To Equitable Zoning

…Reassure governor of maximum support

Leaders of Thought and Traditional Rulers from Ezeagu South in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, including some of their brothers from other zones that make up the council area, have applauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for consistently keeping faith with the principle of zoning of political positions, anchored on equity and justice.

The Ezeagu stakeholders made the commendation when they paid a Thank-you visit to Gov. Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, on Saturday, for the amicable resolution of the issues surrounding the zoning of the Ezeagu LGA Chairmanship position under the arrangement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State.

The people said they were delighted at the manner, and wisdom, the governor displayed in handling the zoning of the Chairmanship position to Ezeagu South without rancour, during the PDP consultative meeting.

Led by the former member of the Federal House of Representatives who represented Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, the delegation maintained that the decision reached at the consultative meeting demonstrated that Gov. Ugwuanyi is an ardent apostle of equitable zoning.

Hon. Ozomgbachi said that “the act and wisdom applied was amazing but not surprising because those of us who have associated with you and the residents of Enugu State that have watched you for over six and half years have come to appreciate the manner in which you make difficult tasks easy”.

He added that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s wisdom has helped the people of Ezeagu LGA to sustain their zoning arrangement, stressing that the governor exhibited similar gesture when he chaired the National Zoning Committee of the PDP, preparatory to the Party’s National Convention which took place in October 2021.

“Your Excellency, when the PDP charged you with the task of leading the committee that was supposed to determine the zoning of PDP national offices before the National Convention, all eyes were on Enugu State Government House.

“The manner in which you led that committee plus the outcome of that committee’s deliberation was what laid the foundation of the unprecedented success at the last National Convention, no protest or rancour.

“The entire country, the entire PDP family across the country were applauding what you did. It is still the same pattern that you applied in this situation.

“Your Excellency, we appreciate what you have done. You have helped us to sustain the zoning arrangement and subsequently, with what you did, we are sure it is going to help us sustain the arrangement going forward. We thank you”, Hon. Ozomgbachi said.

The people of Ezeagu therefore reassured Gov. Ugwuanyi of their unflinching support, saying: “Any time we are called upon to demonstrate our support, we are going to do so, even after your office as the governor because you are like a brother to our people”.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who attributed the success recorded during the zoning deliberations to God Almighty, told the delegation that he saw the visit as an opportunity for him to join them in thanking God.

The governor emphasized the importance of taking the right decision and sustaining it, pointing out that such gesture promotes peace, unity and progress.

He therefore advised the people of Ezeagu LGA to officially document their zoning arrangement for posterity.

The Deputy Governor of Enugu State, an indigene of Ezeagu LGA, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Festus Uzor; the State Commissioner for Budget, Dr. David Ugwunta; the former Chairman of Ezeagu LGA and Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor, Hon. Chukwudi Fred Ezinwa; the Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Igwe Amb. Lawrence Agubuzu and other Royal Fathers, namely: HRH Igwe A. U. Otiji, HRH C. N. Ozoeze; HRM Eze S.M. Ozoekwem and HRH Igwe G.U. Ozonwu, were at the event.
