Italian FA investigating Osimhen’s €71m Napoli transfer

Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Napoli is at the centre of an investigation after an internal body of the Italian Football Federation, the Supervisory Commission on Professional Football Clubs, passed on a report to the Italian FA regarding suspicious transfer activities in the last two years, IgbereTV reports.

The report focused on 62 transfers that took place between 2019 and 2021, with a focus on player exchanges and recorded profits.

The Nigeria international has been in fine form for Luciano Spaletti’s side this term, scoring nine goals in 11 games, after having had to endure a torrid debut season but the latest report comes as bad news.

Football Italia claimed the Prosecutor’s Office of the Italian Football Federation is looking into the much-maligned swap deal involving the player and some other transfers.

“COVISOC has informed the FIGC of possible capital gains by inflated valuations, highlighting, among others, Victor Osimhen’s move from LOSC Lille to Napoli and Juventus’ exchange deal with Barcelona for Arthur Melo,” the website reads in parts.

“Included in the long list published by Il Tempo, the controversial negotiation that helped the Azzurri sign Osimhen is of course the standout case.

“The Nigerian joined Napoli on a deal valued at €71.25m, according to the report, with Orestis Karnezis, Claudio Manzi, Ciro Palmieri and Luigi Liguori going in the opposite direction for a total of €20.13m.
