Police in Ondo State have arrested two masqueraders in their regalia for allegedly harassing and robbing residents of Melege community in Owo Local Government Area of the state, IgbereTV reports.
The two masqueraders identified as Sheriff Ojo and Muhammed Lukman were arrested by a team of policemen in the area after they were alleged to have robbed one Adinoyi Mohammed the sum of N370,000 and his mobile handset.
The two suspects were also alleged to have inflicted injury on Muhammed with a cutlass before robbing him of the said money and his handset valued at N32,000 and fled the area immediately.
A source within the community explained that the two suspects ran away after committing the offence but they were arrested by a team of policemen from the area.
He said âthey were only using the opportunity to rob some residents of the community of their valuables and they have been warned on several occasions. This will put an end to the attack on innocent residents.â
The Police spokesperson, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the arrest of the two masqueraders said the suspects were arrested within the town saying they also injured the father of the victim.
Odunlami said âthe two suspects who paraded themselves as masqueraders, inflicted injury with cutlasses on one Adinoyi Mohammed, dispossessed him of the sum of âŚ370,000.00, a handset valued âŚ32,000.00 and a shirt valued at âŚ2,500.00.
âThey also inflicted injury on the victimâs father, Saliu Ajayi before leaving the scene of the incident but they were apprehended by security agents within the town.
