Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo is slated to commission a multi-billion naira ultra-modern skills acquisition centre which has been named after Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote in Kano state, IgbereTV reports.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje disclosed this while addressing delegates of the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), during a project inspection tour in the state.
According to him, by November this year, Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo will come to Kano to commission the centre.
“Operation will commence fully with five hundred trainees that will be split into two groups,” the Governor stated.
Ganduje reiterated that infrastructure and human resources development are part of his administration’s commitment to boosting the socioeconomic status of the state.
To ensure the sustainability of the skill acquisition centre, the Governor added that; “The management of the centre is going to be handed over to the manufacturers of the machines, they will arrive at the end of this month from Europe.
” Aliko Dangote whom we named this centre after has already paid for their upkeep in US Dollars for six years.”
According to the Governor, the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, visited the facility last week and promise to give accreditation to the centre.
On the issue of admission, he said ” To make the centre more Nigerian 60% will be reserved for Kano people even at that irrespective of social background, religion and culture as long as you are living in the state Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba you are qualified.
“The rest of 40% is going to be shared among the 36 of the federation, the federal capital territory FCT included.”
The Governor added that about 5.5 billion naira has been spent on the project, including the employment of technicians and instructors, stressing that by the second week of this month training will commence.
Part of the projects inspected includes Kantin Kwari, sheikh Karballah, Madobi, Dangi and Bokavu barracks Flyovers, Dangote Skill Acquisition Center and the Cancer Center at Muhammad Buhari specialist hospital.
Some prominent personalities in the tour include the Director-General, Voice of Nigeria, (VON) Osita Okechukwu his counterpart of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and other public and private broadcasting stations across the country.
