Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State has charged Ebonyians to turn their minds to the productive sector.

“In the months ahead, we are going to employ 3,000 civil servants; we are going to empower 3,000 people. We are de-emphasizing appointments.”

The Governor further said:
“We need to redirect the minds of our youths into hard work, into self-esteem, into believing in themselves, and believing that whatever situations they have found themselves, they can turn the situation around for their benefit. This is the agitation that we desire.

“Even though we are financially challenged, but we need these sporting activities to upturn the minds of our children from useless and senseless agitations. The real agitation that we desire, is to secure the future of our children; and that is what our government is doing.”

Gov. Umahi also called on the youths of the state not to engage in criminality in the guise of agitation.

On those calling for war, Gov. Umahi said:
“Those our fathers that witnessed the civil war, they have sad stories to tell us and then our prayers, we say, may that not happen in our land again in Jesus name.”

Governor Umahi congratulated the winning teams for their resilience and announced that another version of the competition would resume in November this year to allow the State to harness budding talents in Sports.

“I am so excited with what we are seeing, and this relief is in all honesty needed by us, our children they have trilled us, this feat shall be repeated in November, it shall be more robust.

“In the whole of November, we shall be celebrating the grace of God upon our Administration, the success of our Governance and the people of Ebonyi State.”

He also announced the commencement of Dave Umahi Tertiary Institution Games across the Tertiary Institutions in the State as a way of discouraging the youths from indulging in needless agitation.

The high points of the event were the presentation of medals to schools that emerged the overall best in each category.
