Enugu Governor’s Wife Interacts With Gender-based Violence Committee On Set Objectives

Wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi, yesterday, interacted with members of the newly inaugurated state government’s steering committee on gender-based violence, led by the Chairman and State Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Rt. Hon. Princess Peace Nnaji, at the Government House, Enugu.

The Enugu Governor’s wife, who expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to stem the tide of gender-based violence in the state, considering its wealth of experience, reiterated her support and commitment towards the eradication of such social vices against humanity as being championed by the wives of governors in the country.

 

In her speech, the committee chairman, Hon. Nnaji, commended Mrs. Ugwuanyi for her special interest in the welfare of the people, especially the vulnerable groups in the society as well as her passion in championing the campaign against gender-based violence in Enugu State.

She expressed her belief that “with the collective effort of all, the war can be won”.

Also speaking, the founder of Women Aid Collective (WACOL), Professor Joy Ezeilo, equally applauded Mrs. Ugwuanyi for her contributions in ensuring that the Child Rights Act and Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act were passed into law and gazetted in Enugu State, which she said, has given the committee the legislative backing to carry out their responsibilities.
