Despite studded silence and refutal by close political associates of the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof. Placid Njoku, that his position is not shaky, there are indications that masterminders of his exit may not have completely soft pedaled.
Njoku was last week in the eye of the storm after one of the leaders of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Owerri Zone, Chief Henry Njoku (Harritex) was reported by an online medium(not IgbereTv) to be behind the plot to oust the Deputy Governor.
He denied the allegations, describing the report as untrue and unfounded, maintaining that he has a good relationship with the Deputy Governor.
Kennedy Nwagwu, a former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, same last week also cleared the air, saying there are no such moves to remove Njoku from office.
But inside sources say underground moves may not have abated within some powerful circles pushing for Njoku’s sack
Njoku’s office had lately come under scrutiny with a cut in his monthly imprest/subvention from N30 million to N15 million naria. The amount is said to be meagre compared to statutory monthly subvention of N70m received by the office of the Deputy Governor in the past.
The Deputy Governor is also said to have come under scrutiny after he was alleged to have engaged close relatives, including his daughter as special Assistant on Administration in his office.
IgbereTv reliably gathered that those pushing for Njoku’s exit are “so far counting their gains and are band of political migrants into the APC who have gradually found political taproot in the party in the state”
Another source within government circles dismissed the report on the grounds that “it is impossible at the moment for anyone to fathom removing the Deputy Governor from office”
“Remove him, for what? What has he done? Governor Uzodimma is not Okorocha who woke one morning and concoted stories against his Deputy, Jude Agbaso and removed him from office”
“This administration is too focused to engage in such political round robin. Njoku is going nowhere please” the well placed source told.
