A Nigerian lawyer, Tope Akinyode who filed a lawsuit challenging the criminal complaint administered by former Presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba against CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has given an update on the case, IgbereTV reports.
According to Akinyode, Garba and his lawyer’s failed to show up for hearing at the Federal High Court today, November 25, 2020.
Recall that the politician had sued the Twitter founder over his support for the #EndSARS protests which rocked Nigeria over a two-week period.
Garba filed a fundamental human rights suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja, demanding that Dorsey pays the federal government $1bn compensation over the resultant violence that marred the #EndSARS protests.
In response to his lawsuit, however, Akinyode challenged it by filing a counter-suit, describing Dorsey’s support for the End SARS movement as a commendable act.
In a recent tweet, the lawyer revealed that Garba and his legal team failed to appear in court and did not give any reasons for their absence.
He tweeted;
“BREAKING: I was at the Federal High Court today to defend Adamu Garba’a lawsuit against
@jack and @Twitter. However, @adamugarba & his lawyers failed to show up in Court without given reasons & the Court has now adjourned case to 22nd April, 2021.”
