The Kaduna State Government has declared Wednesday, September 23, 2020 as public holiday to mourn the late Emir of Zazzau, ) Alh. (Dr.) Shehu Idris.
This was as the Kaduna government announced three days of mourning for the late emir starting from Monday Sept. 21 to Wednesday 23rd Sept.
Igbere TV had on Sunday reported the death of the Zazzau emir, at age 84. The monarch spent 45 years on the throne having ascended to the throne in 1975 at the age of 36.
In a statement made available to Igbere TV, Monday, signed by Muyiwa Adekeye, spokesman to the Governor, he said, “residents are to use this period to pray for his gentle soul.”
“Public offices will open as normal and official functions are expected to continue on Monday and Tuesday, while there will be a public holiday on Wednesday to honour his memory and hold prayers.
“Flags will fly at half-mast from Monday, 21 September to Wednesday, 23rd September 2020,” the statement added.
Igbere TV reports that Emir Idris died at an Army 44 reference hospital in Kaduna after a short admission. He has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
