Edo 2020: Court Moves To Disqualify APC Candidate, Ize-Iyamu, Deputy

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered substituted service of a suit seeking the disqualification of the All Progressives Congress’ governorship candidate in the Sept. 19 Edo Governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and his running mate, Audu Ganiyu.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo, granting the plaintiffs’ application for substituted service, on Monday, ordered that Ize-Iyamu and Ganiyu be served with the suit by pasting the court documents and the hearing notice for next sitting at the residences of the duo in Benin, the Edo State capital.

Igbere TV reports that Justice Taiwo Taiwo, thereafter, adjourned the proceedings till August 24.

The plaintiffs are also APC members, Momoh Abdul-Razak and Zibiri Muhizu, who asked the court to disqualify their party’s candidates.

The plaintiffs’ grounds for the suit included the allegation that Ganiyu gave false information to INEC to aid his qualification for the governorship election.

The plaintiffs, in the suit filed on July 10, 2020, through their lawyer, Friday Nwosu, also alleged irregularities in Ganiyu’s name and academic credentials.

Defendants in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/ CS/758/2020, are the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Ganiyu, and Ize-Iyamu, who were sued as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants, respectively.
