Following the death of its health commissioner, Wahab Adegbenro, the Ondo state government, on Saturday named Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, a special adviser on health, as replacement.
In a statement signed and made available to Igbere TV on Saturday in Akure by the Governor’s Media Assistant, Ojo Oyewamide, he said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu gave the approval.
“Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN has approved that the Special Adviser on Health, Dr Jibayo Adeyeye takes overseeing responsibilities of the Ministry of Health,” he said.
“This development follows the death of the substantive Commissioner, Dr Wahab Adegbenro,” the statement sent to Igbere TV said, adding, “Dr. Jibayo’s new roles are with immediate effect.”
Igbere TV reports that the new health commissioner, Dr Jibayo, is a two-term lawmaker at the Lagos State House of Assembly, and a consummate medical practitioner.
He is a graduate of the prestigious College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The former commissioner had died of Coronavirus and was buried the next day, in line with Islamic rites.
In Ondo, about six lawmakers have reportedly tested positive for the virus. The Governor, his wife and few of their personal aides have equally gone on isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.
