The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Pantami, has reacted to claims by Sahara Reporters as he revealed that government officials do not use Windows 7 for videoconferencing and that the ministry received not more than N1.5 billion in 2019.
Pantami in a tweet on Wednesday said: “THIS IS NOT TRUE:1)No government official uses Windows 7 for videoconferencing; 2) Entire capital released of & @FMoCDENigeria in 2019 is less than N1.5 billion including constituency projects; & 3)The screen is standalone, & not even connected to d internet,& not for the Mins.”
Sahara reporters had earlier stated in a PHOTONEWS that: “Nigeria’s Minister Of Communications and Digital Economy, @DrIsaPantami, Supervises Windows 7 To Be Used By Government Officials For Video Conferencing In 2020 Despite N17bn Budget For Ministry In 2019.”
The Ministry also tweeted that: With the official End of Support (EoS) of the Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System (OS) which came into effect on 14th January 2020, we were the first to warned Nigerians against the use of Microsoft’s Window 7 Operating System (OS) as it is vulnerable to viruses and malware.
