Ohafia Moves To Halt Relocation Of Police Area Command To Arochukwu

The Traditional Rulers and leaders of thought in Ohafia local government area of Abia state have moved to ensure that the Police Area Command located in the area is not moved to Arochukwu as reported, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that the relocation is following the torching of the police station in Ebem Ohafia, burning of a customary court as well as the DPO’s home after the killing of Friday Arunsi, a native of Ebem by a team of policemen recently.

Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Prince Fred Idika said Traditional Rulers in Ohafia have summoned an emergency meeting to ensure the planned relocation is halted.

While admitting that excessive damage was incurred in the protest that rocked the community by youths who were angered by the killing of their kinsman, he insisted that it is not a right step to relocate the Police Area Command from Ohafia, leaving the community dangerously unprotected.

He said; “Ohafia being the headquarters of Abia North merited the citing of the Area Command in the area. The leaders of thoughts from ohafia LGA has condemned the act of violence and torching the entire police barracks by the youths which was hijacked by hoodlums in it strongest term.

“We pray that the Inspector general of police would reconsider his decisions and give the Ohafia people the opportunity to seek for a temporary location for the police while work commences on rebuilding the police facilities.”

He also said it is illogical to site the area command in Arochukwu.
