Just In!!! COVID-19: Anambra To Open Markets Next Week (Photos)

IgbereTV reports that the Anambra state government has announced that sixty three markets in the State will re-open on Monday, 4th of May, 2020.

Governor Willie Obiano announced this today, shortly after a closed – door meeting with market leaders in the state. He said that markets will open only after they must have participated in the training organized by the state government.

Governor Obiano said that each market must have a COVID-19 team that will have the responsibility of enforcing COVID-19 preventive codes and guidelines which includes compulsory wearing of face masks, provision of running water, hand sanitizers, physical distancing, among others.

In the meeting which was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, and top members of the executive arm of government, it was resolved that the markets will close early, to avoid the usual rush associated with closing late, adding that Anambra boundaries remain closed.

The Governor urged industrialists in the State to re-open, but having the COVID-19 directives in mind. He stressed that the only condition for re-opeining of the markets is to have the COVID-19 teams ready, saying that markets which are not ready, will not be allowed to open.

Governor Obiano who stated that NCDC has agreed to upgrade the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, to a test center, said that his administration is weighing the options while gradually re-opening all segments of the State, noting that Anambra schools are still shut, as well as the civil service structure.
